Postdoc Strasbourg 2020

Post-doctoral research fellowship

in Galactic Dynamics at the Observatoire astronomique de Strasbourg (H/F)

We propose a two years CNRS/ANR postdoctoral position at the Observatoire astronomique de Strasbourg (ObAS) funded through the ANR project SEGAL, focusing on the secular evolution of galaxies, and of the Milky Way in particular in the Gaia era. The position should start in the Fall of 2020.

The applicant will have to hold a PhD degree at the start of the contract (preferentially with no previous postdoctoral experience), with a very solid formation in the field of stellar dynamics, and in the exploitation of Gaia data.

We expect the successful candidate to work on theoretical developments related to the dynamics of the Milky Way disk, in particular its secular evolution and its vertical perturbations related to its interaction with the Sagittarius dwarf and the LMC.

The successful candidate will be based in the GALHECOS team of the astronomical Observatory of Strasbourg (Observatoire astronomique de Strasbourg, ObAS). The GALHECOS team is a dynamic and growing team, with many recent and future postdoctoral recruitments, particularly on topics related to the dynamics of galaxies and stellar systems. The ObAS is located on the premises of Strasbourg University - one of the major universities in France - in historical buildings surrounded by a botanic garden, within walking distance from the city center. The salary is ~2€/month net, and includes French social insurance.
