Postdoc IAP 2022
Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Stellar Dynamics at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris
The Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (IAP) is seeking candidates for a 2 years post-doctoral position in the field of stellar dynamics.
The successful candidate will be involved in the ANR project SEGAL ("Secular Evolution of Galaxies" -- http://www.secular-evolution.org), focusing on the long-term evolution of galactic and stellar systems. We expect the candidate to work on the development and application of numerical and semi-analytical methods in the context of the long-term evolution of self-gravitating systems. This work will be carried out in close collaboration withJ.-B. Fouvry (IAP), C. Pichon (IAP), and P.-H. Chavanis (Univ. Toulouse). The applicant will also benefit from the broader framework of the SEGAL collaboration involving ~30 experts. Besides these projects, independent research and leadership will be encouraged.
Applicants should have a PhD in physics, astronomy or related subject by the time of the appointment. We encourage applications from candidates with strong expertise in theoretical physics; solid skills in numerical methods and computer programming are also a must.
The IAP maintains a lively visitor program and hosts regular workshops and conferences throughout the year. The successful candidate will be immersed in an internationally visible research environment with rich intellectual and computational resources. The postdoctoral researcher will also benefit from the very large astrophysics and theoretical physics communities in the Paris region.
The appointment is for 2 years with salary depending on experience and including French social security benefits. Additional funding for conferences, collaborations, personal equipment and publications is available.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV (max. 2 pages), a publication list, a short review of previous works and statement of research interests (max. 4 pages) through this website. Two to three recommendation letters should be sent directly to fouvry@iap.fr. For full consideration, materials must be received before December 6th, 2021.
Included benefits
The monthly gross salary will be in the range $4350.00- $5400.00 (USD) reflecting the research experience of the candidate.
French national medical insurance, maternity/paternity leave, lunch subsidies, family supplement for children, participation to public transport fees, pension contributions.
Note that school is free in France for all children above 3.
In addition, the IAP/CNRS and the Cité Universitaire de Paris can provide support for settling in Paris, and CNRS offers free French lessons.
